Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Two years later she became a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell first covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable reports, including arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
